Dedicated to María Ester Feliciano, writer and teacher, and to all Puerto Rican educators, "The Mermaid" is a vibrant mural that pays homage to the children's poem "Hola mar" by Feliciano. This poem, known for its fantasy, colors, and fun, serves as the inspiration for the piece.

As the artist and teacher who created this mural, I aimed to capture the playful and magical essence of Feliciano's poetry. The work is a kaleidoscope of bright colors and fantastic marine elements that invite viewers, especially children, to dive into a world of imagination and joy.

One of the most significant aspects of this project was the collaboration with students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. Under my guidance, these young artists actively participated in the creation of the mural, adding their personal touches and contributing to a collective work that reflects the creativity and enthusiasm of our school community.

"The Mermaid" not only celebrates the richness of Puerto Rican children's literature but also honors Feliciano's legacy and the dedication of all educators who inspire and shape future generations. The mural is a testament to the transformative power of art and education, and an excellent example of how collaboration can create something truly special and meaningful.
