Ángela María Dávila, also known as Angelamaría Dávila, was born on February 21, 1944, and was a prominent Puerto Rican poet and declaimer, considered the most notable member of the Generation of the 60s. She was part of the Guajana literary collective, and her poetry features the strong presence of an Afro-Caribbean woman taking full control of an erotic subject. She studied at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus, and published two collections of poems: "Homenaje al ombligo" (1966) and, in collaboration with her then-husband José María Lima, "Animal fiero y tierno" (1977). Dávila passed away on July 8, 2003, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease.
